Anzac Day
presented by
Maryborough Players

Wednesday 23rd April 9.30am, 11.30am, 7pm

Adults - $25

During 2012 Maryborough Players conducted a script writing workshop under the guidance of Brisbane based actor and internationally accredited play write, Ian "Renoire" Rennie.  ANZAC DAY, was one of the scripts that came to fruition as a result of this workshop.

Written by Robert Haigh, this project has been ten years and four complete rewrites in the making.  With over 13 years of service to the Australian Defence Force, and a family history of military involvement it was essential for Robert, that the script convey the educational message, without glorifying nor deriding the actions of individual soldiers, and it was only through the independent guidance that ANZAC DAY was completed to Robert's satisfaction.

ANZAC DAY tells the story of one family, through the eyes of the patriarch, veteran Mr Colin Bain as he prepares to attend the dawn service on Anzac Day.  He reminisces about his experiences and the influence military service has had on his family as he interacts with the staff from the nursing home where he is a resident.  His son and grandson provide a contemporary reflection on current attitudes and perceptions within the wider community.

The Discworld runs on magic, in the same way that some people think our world runs on science.  In a world like this, stories themselves have power.  They're not the fairy tales of your childhood, even if they look a bit like them.
Three country witches find themselves reluctantly taking on the roles of collective Godmother to a kitchen maid in far-off Genua.  But they have to stop her from marrying the Prince (who is not at all what he seems), and while they're at it, end the tyranny of the girl's Other Godmother. Of course, first they have to get to Genua, and that itself is an adventure
Sir Terry Pratchett is the UK's all-time best selling author, with over 50 million books sold.  His books are both witty and wise.  Witches Abroad is about knowing your true self, and living with it anyway.

John Waters first faced a live audience as a singer and bass guitar player with 1960s London-based blues band 'The Riots' before travelling to Australia, initially for an extended working holiday and then eventually settling here permanently.  He is an accomplished musician, and since 1992 has toured many times with his one man show Looking Through a Glass Onion co-written with friend and musician, Stewart D'Arrietta, the show is a tribute to John Lennon featuring numerous examples of Lennon's music, words and images. In addition to the Australian tours of this show it also played six months in the West End, London.

In a homage to the music, mystery and memory of John Lennon, John Waters explores the essence of the man through song and spoken word. He becomes synonymous with Lennon. He shies away from imitating the artist, but so emotive is his performance, it lulls the audience into believing anything is possible. It's part concert and part biography. The two man show with John Waters and Stewart D'Arrietta is up close, intimate and very personal. For the audience this is either an emotional trip down memory lane or a wonderful introduction to the life and times of one of the most fascinating icons of our time.
